Thank you for your comment, William. I do think that in the early stages of writing, our own experiences often lead to the clearest, most powerful writing. This can be true late in a career too, but when one is finding one's footing as a writer, drawing directly from experience removes some of the friction that fiction creates and allows the writer to develop a voice and a writing practice without having to conjure plots and characters from thin air.
